Why in News?

40 CBI Officials get Police Medal for Meritorious Service

 Central Bureau of Investigation: 

 · The CBI is the premier investigative agency in India.

 Establishment: 

 · Its establishment was recommended by the Santhanam committee

 · It was established in the year 1963 as a result of the merger of the Special Police Establishment (SPE) with Delhi Special Police Establishment Act.

· It was set up by a resolution of the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1963.

· It is not a statutory body but it derives its power from Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946.

· It comes under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions

 Role and Function: 

 · Its primary role is to investigate and solve crimes of national importance particularly those related to corruption, economic offences, fraud etc.

 Jurisdiction:

 · It has jurisdiction over all central government employees and cases that are referred to it by the central government, state government and courts 

 Organizational Structure:

 · The CBI is headed by a director, who is assisted by various officers in the ranks of Special Director, Joint Director, Deputy Inspector General, Superintendent of Police etc. 

 · The security tenure for the Director of CBI is two years

 · It is provided by the CVC Act of 2003

 CVC Supervision: 

 · CBI is monitored by the Central Vigilance Commission which exercises superintendence over the agency’s functioning in matters related to corruption case. Limitations:

 · Its Jurisdiction is limited to the central government employees and cases with the central government consent. 

 · It cannot investigate offences related to public order, police and land except with the permission of the respective state governments 

 Consent by the state government:

· The state’s consent is required for the CBI investigation according to the Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act of 1946. 

 · There are 2 types of consent for the CBI. They are: 

 · General Consent: If a state gives consent for the CBI, then it is not required to ask fresh permission every time it deals with the investigation even for every case. 

 · Specific Consent: If a general consent is withdrawn then it needs to take case-wise consent for investigation from the concerned state government.

Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha

Why in News? 

4,000 crore funds under AONO programme will end up in temple renovation

 Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha:

 · It is the modified version of the Ama Gaon Ama Bikash which was launched by the Odisha Government. 

 · Its aim is to transform the Odisha into a modern and aspirational Odisha

 · It wants to retain essence, soul and spirit of Jagannath culture and spreading it to the world. 

 · Implementation-It is implemented through the Panchayati Raj Institutions. 

 · Under this programme, every Panchayat in Odisha will get 50 lakh rupees each. 

 · This programme will preserve the local places of worship, historical sites and also other essential infrastructure needs.

 · It bridges the gap in education infrastructure, internet connectivity etc.

 · It builds playgrounds, science parks and training facilities. 

 · This programme ensures the participation of communities, local governance and utilization of resources etc. 

 Objective:

 · To provide the missing links to the existing small and essential projects and the development of Infrastructure.

Manas National Park

Why in News?

Wildlife Institute of India scientists have found that the clouded leopard in Assam’s Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve seems to play a mysterious game of hide and seek 

 Manas National Park: 

 · It is a national park, UNESCO natural world heritage site, Tiger reserve and also a biosphere reserve 

 · It is located in the state of Assam in India

 · It is contiguous with Royal Manas National Park which is located in Bhutan 

 · The Manas River flows through this park which is a tributary of Brahmaputra River

· This river serves as an international border between Bhutan and India

 Clouded Leopard:

 · It is named after the presence of cloud shaped pattern on its skin

 · It has rotating rare ankles which enables it to climb down head first from trees. 

 · It is recognized for being the State animal of Meghalaya.

 · It is categorized into two species. They are: 

 · The mainland clouded leopard- which is distributed from Central Nepal to Peninsular Malaysia

 · The Sunda clouded leopard-which is native to Borneo and Sumatra 

 · IUCN Status-Vulnerable 

 · CITES-Appendix-I 

 Threats:

 · Deforestation 

 · Poaching 

 · Human-wildlife Conflict etc.

Perucetus Colossus

 Why in News?

As per a study published in Nature, the Perucetus Colossus the newly discovered whale is an ancient species of whale is thought to be one of the largest and heaviest animals on record.

 Perucetus Colossus:

· This is discovered in the Southern Peru recently. 

 · It is 39 million years old 

 · Scientists are believing that it is heavier than the blue whale.

 · It is predicted that the skeletal mass would be two-three times that of 25-meters long blue whale. 

 · Scientists guess that the species are weighed between 85 and 340 tonnes.

 · The bones of the species had an unusually large volume and also extremely dense. 

 Taxonomy: 

 · It belongs to the family Kogiidae. 

 · Kogiidae is a group of toothed whales which includes modern-day pygmy and dwarf sperm whales.

Mudumalai Tiger Reserve

Why in News? 

The President of India has visited the Theppakadu Elephant Camp at the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.

 Theppakadu Elephant Camp: 

 · It is the oldest elephant camp in Asia. 

 · It was established 105 years back 

 · It is situated on the banks of the river Moyar.

· It currently contains 28 elephants. 

 · There are many Mahouts who provides training and care to these elephants.

 · Kattunayakan tribes are present in this area.

 · This place rehabilitates the rogue elephants which enters the human habitation and enters into conflict with the people. 

 · Then these elephants will be given proper training at these camps and the elephants will be converted into Kumki elephants

 Mudumalai National Park:

· It is present in the Nilgiri District of Tamil Nadu State

 · It is exactly located at the tri-junction of the three states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. 

 · It was as old as 65 million years

 · It consists of a common boundary with Waynad Wildlife Sanctuary on the west and Bandipur Tiger reserve in the east. 

 Fauna: 

 · Elephants · Tiger · Panther · Wild Boar etc. 

 Flora: 

 · Moist Teak Forest · Grasslands · Swamps etc.

Tuberculosis

Why in News? 

According to the WHO Global TB report 2022, about 40% of people with TB across the world were not diagnosed in the year 2021.

 Tuberculosis: 

· It is a contagious disease which affects lungs.

 Cause:

 · It is caused by a bacterium called as Mycobacterium Tuberculosis

 Transmission: 

 · It spreads from one person to other through the air.

 · When people infected with TB cough, sneeze or spit then they propel TB germs into the air.

 Symptoms: 

· Cough with sputum and blood 

 · Chest Pain

 · Weakness 

 · Fever 

 · Night sweats 

 · Weight loss etc. 

 Government Initiatives:

 · National Strategic Plan which is introduced in the year 2017 to eliminate the TB by the year 2025.

· The Nikshay Ecosystem (National TB information System). 

 · At present, two vaccines known as VPM 1002 (Vaccine Project Management) and MIP (Mycobacterium Indicus Pranii) have been developed for TB and are under Phase-3 clinical trails. 

 · Nikshay Poshan Yojana was launched in the year 2018 to support every TB patient by providing 500 rupees per month through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) 

 Important Points:

· World Tuberculosis Day is observed every year on 24th March.

 · India wants to make India TB-free by the year 2025

 · Global Target for TB elimination is 2030.

Zoological Survey of India 

 Syllabus: Prelims-Important Organizations 

 Why in News? 

· Zoological Survey of India published in 75 Endemic Birds of India that about 5% birds found in the country are endemic.

 · The publication was released on the 108th foundation of ZSI. 

 · India is home to 1,353 bird species which represents 12.4% of the global bird diversity.

 · Out of these only 78 are endemic to the country. 

 · One of the authors of publications has mentioned that out of the 78 species, three have not been recorded in the past few decades. They are: 

 · Manipur bush quail-which is listed as endangered by the IUCN with its last sighting in 1907.

 · Himalayan quail- listed as critically endangered by the IUCN with its last sighting in 1876

· Jerdon’s course-listed as critically endangered by IUCN with its last sighting in 2009

Zoological Survey of India: 

· It was established in the year 1916. 

 · It is an apex organization on animal taxonomy in our country. 

 · Headquarters: Kolkata

· Its main objective is to promote survey, exploration, research and documentation on various aspects of animal taxonomy in our country.

 · It has declared as the designated repository for the National Zoological Collection

 · It is as per the section 39 of the National Biodiversity Act, 2002.

PM SVANIDHI 

Syllabus: Prelims-Important Policies

Why in News?

Government has released the details of PM SVANIDHI Scheme

 PM SVANidhi:

· It is a Central Sector scheme launched in the year 2020

 · It works under the Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs

 · It provides an affordable loan of Rs. 10,000 to the street vendors whose business was operational on or before March 24.

· The 2nd and 3rd term loan are extended to 20,000 and 50,000 respectively. 

 · Small Industrial Development Bank of India is the implementing agency of this scheme. 

 · Its main objective is to facilitate the working capital loan. 

 · This scheme provides the collateral free working capital loans

 · The scheme will be ended by 2024.

· The loan amount should be repayable in monthly instalments in a period of one year.

 · Early repayment of the loan will provide a interest subsidy of 7% per annum 

 · The interest subsidy will be credited to the beneficiaries bank accounts through the Direct Benefit transfer on quarterly basis. 

 Eligibility:

· The vendor must have Certificate of Vendor/Identity card.

 · The Identity card has to be issued by the urban Local Bodies. 

 Significance:

· It encourages entrepreneurship and creates employment opportunities 

 · It promotes digital transactions through the cashback incentives.
