Mission LiFE 

 Syllabus: GS Paper-2-Polity 

 Why in News? 

Prime Minister of India says as the world grapples with crises, we have shown the way and launched the Mission LiFE initiative Mission 

LiFE:

· LiFE stands for the Lifestyle for the Environment

 Â· It was proposed by the Prime Minister of India at COP26 in Glasgow in the year 2021. 

 Â· This movement seeks ideas from around the world to foster climate-friendly behaviours in people, households and communities. 

 Â· It was inaugurated at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.

 Â· This mission seeks to translate the vision of LiFE into measurable impact. 

 Â· Its main aim is to mobilise at least one billion Indians and other global citizens to take individual and collective action for conserving the environment in the period 2022-28.

· It is piloted by NITI Aayog and is implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Phases: 

 Â· Mission LiFE has 3 phases. They are: 

 Â· Phase-I-It mentions about the change in demand. · It wants the individuals across the world to practice simple yet effective environment-friendly actions in their daily lives. 

 Â· Phase-II mentions about the change in supply. · This phase wants changes in large-scale individual demand that are expected to gradually nudge industries and markets to respond and procurement as per the revised demands.

 Â· Phase-III deals with the change in Policy. · It mentions that by influencing the demand and supply dynamics of Indian and the world, the long term vision of the Mission LiFE is to trigger the shifts in large-scale industrial and government policies which can support both sustainable consumption and production. 

 Examples set by India: 

 Â· Ujjwala scheme has increased the households with LPG connections from 62% in 2015 to 99.8% in the year 2021. 

 Â· Swachh Bharat Mission has led to the use of about 100 million toilets in rural India in a span of 7 years.

PM-USHA

 Why in News?

14 states and Union Territories have not signed a crucial Memorandum of Understanding to implement the National Educational Policy as part of the PM-USHA Scheme.

PM-USHA: 

 Â· It stands for Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan 

 Â· The scheme RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) has been launched as the PM-USHA in the year 2023 in the light of National Education Policy.

 Â· RUSA is a centrally sponsored scheme and so the PM-USHA Scheme. 

 Â· RUSA was launched in the year 2013. 

 Â· RUSA was established to provide strategic funding to the higher educational institutions.

 Objectives:

 Â· To provide equity access and inclusion in the higher education

 Â· It aims to develop quality Teaching and learning processes 

 Â· It provides ICT based Digital Infrastructure

 Â· It increases the employment

 Â· It aims to improve the overall quality of existing state higher educational institutions

 Â· It ensures governance, academic and examination reforms in the State higher educational institutions. 

 Advantages: 

 Â· It provides establishment of new Model Degree Colleges. 

 Â· It promotes grants to strengthen universities

 Â· It focusses on remote and aspirational areas

 Â· It supports Gender equality
